U9 Mini Red Tennis

Venue: WESTEND TENNIS CLUB, ADDERBURY

Age Groups: U9 (Year 3 & 4) Mixed

Teams: Min. Team of 8 / Max. Squad of 10 (see ratio requirement below)

Qualification:

The winning team from each family level/group competition will qualify for the School Sport Partnership Final.

 

Please note: The number of teams that qualify from each ‘family’ event will depend on the number of families involved. i.e. 1 family = top team, 2 families = top two teams

Rules:

• Each team must consist of a minimum of 8 players, 4 boys and 4 girls.
• Players should be seeded from 1 – 8 strictly by ability and irrespective of gender or age, player 1 should be the strongest player. Each team should submit a completed declaration sheet prior to the competition beginning.
• Players must remain the same seed throughout the competition.
• Reserve players (i.e. a 9th or 10th member of your squad) may only play in the lowest seeded position of a player of the same gender only (except in the event of injury or illness). If you wish for your reserve player(s) to play in a match(es) that is not dictated by injury, they may rotate with the lowest seeded player of the same gender.

 

• Matches will last for 5* minutes (centrally timed), and will be played in a tie-break format with simple scoring (i.e. 1-0, 1-1, 2-1, 3-1 etc).
• The match will be won by the player that scores the most points within the 5 minutes. If the points are level a deciding point will be played. Players must complete the point if started before the 5 minutes has elapsed.
• Upon winning a match, players will be allocated 3 points for their team; players losing a match will receive 1 point.
• In the event of 2 schools finishing with the same number of points at the end of the competition, results between the schools involved will be considered.

*Time may be adjusted dependent on the number of teams entered.

 

• A toss will be made to decide who serves first. The first server will then serve from the right hand (deuce) side of the court for one point. Player 2 will then serve for 2 points, firstly from the left side (ad) of the court, and then from the deuce side. The serve will then continue to alternate between players every 2 points. 
• Serves can be made over arm or underarm from the back of the court.
  • The serve must be made without letting the ball bounce first.
  • Serves must be hit diagonally across the court and land within the service box.
  • A second serve will be allowed if the first serve hits the net or lands out. If the second serve also hits the net or lands out a point will be awarded to the opposing player.

 

• The ball may only bounce once, and must bounce within the confines of the court.
• The ball may not bounce before crossing the net to the opponent’s side of the court.
• If there are any disputes over whether a ball landed in or out, that point will simply be scrapped and a ‘let’ will be played.

 

Additional Information:

• Matches will be played with ‘Mini Tennis Red’ balls on a hard court surface.
• Player must use short handled rackets (no longer than 23 inches) – not provided.

• Matches will be officiated by young sports leaders.
• School staff are responsible for the behavior, safety and well-being of their own students and should offer appropriate first aid provision.
• Photographs may be taken at this event for publicity purposes by North

Oxfordshire School Sport Partnership; they may appear on our website, twitter
